Intermines Sports Day Fun
The recent Intermines Sports Day saw the UMK teams step onto the fields and courts with determination, pride, and plenty of spirit, proudly flying the organisation’s flag high across every discipline they entered. On the soccer pitch, UMK opened their campaign with flair, edging past Moolman (Tshipi) in a tightly contested match that ended 2–1. It was a result that sparked early celebrations among the supporters gathered at the sidelines. The semi-final, however, proved a tougher test. Despite a strong and spirited performance, UMK went down 1–3 to Kalagadi, who advanced to the final. Black Rock ultimately claimed the tournament, defeating Kalagadi 3–2 in a thrilling final.

The UMK ladies showcased their talent on the netball court, putting in a valiant effort against a formidable Black Rock side. The final score stood at 12–34, with the UMK team walking away with their heads held high, cheered on for their teamwork and tenacity. Then came one of the day’s highlights, the tug of war. The UMK ladies lined up with grit etched on their faces, gripping the rope like their lives depended on it. Their sheer strength and impeccable teamwork pulled them all the way to the silver medal, an achievement celebrated loudly by their colleagues and supporters. The snooker team wrapped up the day’s action in winning style, outclassing the competition to clinch the gold medal and the tournament cup, which will soon take its place at the mine. Their victory capped off a day that was less about medals and more about camaraderie, pride, and representing UMK with heart. Whether they won, lost, or drew, the UMK teams embodied sportsmanship, teamwork and spirit, making this Intermines Sports Day one to remember.
