Niresh Bapoo

Chief Commercial Officer

Niresh Bapoo was appointed Chief Commercial Officer of UMK in August 2025, after serving in an acting capacity from July. He brings nearly two decades of mining-related experience in both listed and unlisted entities.

He began his career while completing his Honours Degree in Accounting, serving articles with a Big Four audit firm, and went on to hold roles at Bidvest Bank, Absa, and Anglo American, where he managed teams of more than 100 people across internal audit, risk, and global shared services. He also worked as an independent risk consultant and later served as Chief Audit Executive at Transalloys, where he established an internal audit function from the ground up and chaired the Transalloys Pension Fund committee managing over R300 million.

At UMK, he previously led the Internal Risk and Special Projects function and was appointed Chief Audit Executive and Special Projects before taking on his current role. He holds an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science and has a strong record of driving operational and commercial efficiencies while delivering on strategic objectives.
