Tribe Bhengu is an experienced Operations leader with experience spanning across Maintenance, Engineering, Projects, Operations and General Management. He joined UMK in 2017 as General Manager.
Tribe has vast experience in open cast mining, underground mining project development and smelting. He has spent the last 10 years in various roles in the manganese mining industry and has broad industry and operations experience. He believes in harnessing human potential to create lasting shareholder and stakeholder value. He has a proven track record in leading operations and delivering sustainable results.
Tribe has successfully delivered the largest growth phase of the then BHP Billiton Manganese South Africa now South 32 in delivering projects such as the Wessels Central Block ventilation shaft, and underground development and the M14 furnace at the Metalloys smelter.
Tribe started his career in the electricity distribution industry with Durban Electricity. He spent 8 years in various roles in engineering, projects, planning and maintenance. His notable achievement was being named the 2005 Young Engineer Of The Year, the first black recipient of this prestigious award.
