Reaffirming UMK’s Commitment to Safety
As the festive season approaches, UMK celebrated not only its achievements but also its unwavering commitment to safety. To this end UMK General Manager Joe Mosupyoe called for all UMK staff to recommit to the Safety Pledge; it is a cornerstone of UMK’s vision of “Every mine worker returning home, from work, unharmed every day. Striving for zero harm.”
The Safety Pledge serves as a powerful reminder that safety is a shared responsibility. This commitment was amplified during a recent event where milestones were celebrated. UMK recently achieved 244 Lost-Time Injury-Free Days and 91 Total Injury-Free Days. These achievements highlighted UMK’s dedication to a culture of safety into daily operations and were a testament to the collective effort of everyone at the company.
Re-signing and reading the Safety Pledge wasn’t just a formality for Mosupyoe. it was a declaration of “war”, as he noted, against unsafe acts and conditions. The pledge confirmed each team member’s role in ensuring that safety is not an afterthought but a priority that’s key to every Toolbox Talk engagement and daily operations.
Safety isn’t just about statistics; it’s about people. By recommitting to the Safety Pledge, UMK continued to reinforce the notion that every action in the workplace today shapes a brighter and safer tomorrow.
This season, as we gather to reflect and celebrate, let’s remember that Exceptional Care starts with each of us, he shared. “Together, we are not just working towards zero harm; we are building a legacy of safety that ensures everyone returns home unharmed, every day,” Mosupyoe said.
