UMK hands over shoes, calculators and sanitary pads to Madularanch schools
Madularanch learners received school shoes, calculators and sanitary pads this week as part of a UMK initiative aimed at supporting education and learner wellbeing in communities surrounding its operations.
The handovers took place at Thaganyane Primary School and Kegomoditswe Secondary School, benefiting hundreds of learners across the two schools.
At Thaganyane Primary School, 78 pairs of school shoes were distributed to identified learners from Grades 1 to 7. Sanitary pads were also handed to 86 female learners in Grades 6 and 7.
Addressing learners, parents and educators, UMK General Manager Joe Mosupyoe said the company believed every child deserved the opportunity to learn “in dignity, confidence and comfort”. Education remains one of the most powerful tools to build stronger communities and create brighter futures,” he said.
Leaning in dignity, confidence and comfort
Mosupyoe told learners receiving school shoes that UMK hoped the contribution would provide comfort and confidence as they continued their educational journey. “We want you to walk proudly towards your dreams and ambitions.”
The handover was attended by parents and members of the School Governing Body. Principal Mrs Nkoukou thanked the company for its support.

At Kegomoditswe Secondary School, UMK distributed 104 calculators to Grade 11 learners and a further 65 calculators to Grade 12 learners. Sanitary pads were provided to all female learners at the school. More than 1,200 sanitary pads were distributed across the two schools.
Speaking during the handover, Mosupyoe said the calculators represented more than learning tools. “They represent opportunity, preparation and encouragement as you work towards your academic goals and prepare for your examinations and future careers.” He encouraged learners to remain focused on their studies and to recognise the opportunities that education could create for them.
Committed to education
Kegomoditswe Secondary School has approximately 482 learners. Principal Mr Mohentswe and members of the School Governing Body expressed their appreciation for the support.
Mosupyoe said UMK remained committed to supporting education, youth empowerment and community development initiatives. “We understand that when we invest in young people, we invest in the future of our country.”
UMK mining learners also participated in the programme, assisting with branding and packaging during the handovers. The initiative forms part of the company’s ongoing community development programmes in its host communities.
